Transitions — we’re moving through a lot of them at the moment! Having transitioned into a national lockdown, where our busy, breezy social summer became a very different kind of autumn, we’re now looking at moving back out into the world as we prepare for Level 2. Some of you might already be working, or have family members out in the work place, others might have had very few in person interactions over the last six weeks.

And though change can be exciting and we can read uncertainty as possibility, transitions can also be hard. They can be uncomfortable and unsettling. And that’s okay.

Things are going to be a bit different for a while.

As you and those close by get ready and start to reintegrate with the wider community, remember to go slow. Do your best to minimise pressure you put on others and yourself to be ‘normal’, whatever that means. Take pauses where you can to check in. Listen to your breath. Do your practice. And perhaps most importantly, speak out when you need support. Ask friends, family, peers and colleagues for help if you need it — be open with what’s going on for you with those you trust, and let them share their experience too.

A problem shared, is a problem halved.

While there might be struggles, awkwardness and anxiety in the following weeks or months, let’s bring as much gentleness, kindness and compassion along too. Stay open to new ideas, to solving problems in different ways and sharing your worries. Let’s do this transition together.
